ebay to acquire paypal

For those of you who are interested or working actively in the business biz' might affect the impact of this transaction since many of our daily business transaction are made via paypal...ebay is about to buy its greatest only rival making it undisputely mightier than ever...

The $1.5 billion deal, which was negotiated and completed in a week, brings together two companies that are already intertwined, and that have been among the few Internet companies left thriving. PayPal is widely used to transact business by buyers and sellers on eBay, a situation that, before this deal, created both interdependency but also rivalry between the two businesses.

As far as I know over 17 million people (or even more?) have signed up for a PayPal account, into which they can transfer money from a bank or credit card account. When they make a purchase using their PayPal account, the seller pays a fee of roughly 3 percent, a figure that has risen steadily over the last several years.

But PayPal has become an increasingly popular payment mechanism with a viral effect; the more people who sign up for PayPal, the more it becomes attractive to new users looking to buy and sell online and who have a bigger network to interact with. It has become an alternative and a threat to credit cards, which owners of small businesses say they cannot afford, and sometimes are prohibited from using altogether.

The stiffy billpoint can't match up against paypal forcing ebay to buy their rivals...However this will definitely cut down jobs.. (ok at least this is my opinion *g*)

PayPal has also become highly popular among online casinos, with industry analysts estimating that 10 to 15 percent of PayPal's revenue in the first quarter — when it processed $1.3 billion in transactions — came from online gambling payments. No more: eBay announced it would no longer allow PayPal to be used for gambling because of the murky legal and regulatory issues involved in online gambling, said Rajiv Dutta, eBay's chief financial officer.

One indirect impact from the PayPal acquisition is that it could further hurt the online casinos, which have had an increasingly hard time finding ways to transact business. In recent months, a growing number of banks have forbidden the use of credit cards they issue from being used for online gambling.

This is probably a real menace for the employees of the casino industry..

If some of the head chief officers don't fend off this crucial deal (at least under this circumstances) it's eventually possible that eBay withdraws paypal from the "outer world" by focusing PayPal exclusively on eBay and not on businesses outside of the auction sites....

I don't know exactly how this is going to affect the business world, but at least it isn't a benefit for starter-up enterprises aiming for a convenient payment service that can't affort installing standart credit card servers due to their crushing fees..it doesn't encourage new enterprise founders to invest their money in open concepts...and it will probably restrain the current business developments in online payment.

It might affect international business as well as paypal becomes widely used in europe as well (e.g. British and german users have the ability to withdraw their funds to their local bank accounts)
What are your opinion concerning this transaction? What are your opinions about ebay?
Thanks for taking an interest in this thread.

stay tuned and have a nice day,

Chris

kannst du das nicht einfach in deinen eigenen worten zusammenfassen oder war der text zu schwer????

irgendwie würd ich das doch als spam vermerken:D

aber naja....kannst du mir sagen was paypal ist ?????

Tymer, is it that hard to talk in English when an American person talks to you in his native language?
your post is spam all the way since you don't even know what paypal is and/or didn't even bother to read the text.

well, thanks a lot for the elaboration, MajinVegeta. my brother is definitely going to be intrigued.

He widely uses eBay and I'm trying to tell him that eBay can also be a great security risk. He justs presumes everything's going to be ok every damn time using this security hole-producing abomination. Maybe he just deserves a lecture...

ehem, excuse me, but I personally care less of a donkey for online casinos. those tricky bastards are imo an even greater security issue. at least I haven't encountered anyone winning in a online casino. but bleh, that's me.

about paypal: well, imo it's a nice service. I never needed it up to now, and I have a natural avoidance feature in my brain for such services. if they can absolutely prove that it's without any risk, then maybe I'll chance my mind and sign up. my money is fukkin' holy and losing it would mean damn painful vengeance.

hi Cronox and thanks for posting your opinion regarding ebay.

Indeed, a friend of mine has been experiencing some greater lack of security on ebay in the past few month, the scams and thieves have been specialized in sending unsolicited mails pretenting the were ebay asking for sensitive and confidential informations...and many people let themself deceive without knowing it's just a hoax...

The next annoying thing of ebay are the deadbiders, once the have selected their victims they start bidding like hell on every auction that has been put up and the seller ends up paying all the fees to the ebay crooks..and finally ebay doesn't give a damn about that matter.

Sure, the casinos mainly endeavour to make as much profit as possible, regardless if you lose your whole salery or not, and I coincide with you, I don't know even a single person either that didn't lose money playing online games, but it's unfortunate though for all those "standart" employees who're just working their....I'm sure many of them will get sacked while they big players continue making massive profits...

According to the paypal security issue:
I'm a paypal member and I'm well aware of the the security risks involved when dealing via paypal...but it's the only opportunity to stay flexible and to pay the sellers I buy from fast and conveniently, even here in europe (I'm currently residing in europe).
Fortunately every paypal transaction is insured but as a conscious online user you should always verify your monthly CC invoices, if you are ripped off you should file indemnity forms immediately (at least within the 24 h) to ensure that you'll get the stolen money again....and that's exactly the point, paypal is undoubtly one of the most enticing places for all online thieves...they simply attempt everything possible to get their hands on the money, from system nuking, sending faked e-mails (We're from the customer staff and we need your password to make sure...), daily hacking, etc.... paypal is forced to tighten their security measures constantly to fend off all bootleggers and to stay on top, but now with ebay as the headleader that holds the vast majority of the shares...I hope that those guys aren't going to neglect the security issues, because obviously ebay has become to busy counting their profits, they are excellent in raising their fees but they already forgot where their profit comes from....from their members!

have a nice day and thx again for posting your opinion about this matter (your english skills are awsome :)),

Chris

this is the news forum! fools, read the damn describtion below the link: only serious discussions are allowed!
i advise you to just shut the **** up if you're English skills are either too insufficient or you have nothing obviously adequate to say. please don't act that immature and least attempt to not make a complete shame out of yourself.

btw, REINKARNATION, your sig is far more than vile and unacceptable.

@MajinVegeta:
thanks, English is a fascinating language and i love talking in it.

i never had much faith in ebay and i suspect someday they'll pay for their unawareness (?) of those security issues. i don't know, i almost daily hear from users being ripped off at ebay. well, of course that's natural if you pay in advance and never get to see something. another issue surely is their constant raising of the fees. but ebay has some kind of monopoly in that area. they don't seem to allow any futile rivalry. paypal's collaboration now (let's say, ebay's big deal) just proves that. they get all the other smaller online bay stations. i personally don't quite like such behaviour.... but of course they give less of a piece of $#!T about that ;)

you too have a nice day, chris :)

well, English is established worldwide as the dominating language. let's just set it as a requirement for global communication, ok?
if you're not that good at it, well then go learn it. it's easy and you can learn it in every school (at least i think so).
your vocabulary is insufficient? get babylon translator.

phew, sorry for off-topic... but if you have nothing convenient to say, just stfu.

I fully coincide with you a, apparently ebay is rather concerned about implementing new marketing stragedies and acquiring new companies instead of improving their security and fraud system…..
Nevertheless I think that ebay isn’t unaware of the security issue and the involved risks, however this is very tricky because you can only claim your stolen money if you paid by billpoint or by one of the affiliated payment services…..the bad thing is if the user gets ripped off by another user (this is the most common case of fraud on ebay, e.g. a newly registered user, who doesn’t have proven track of successfully ended auctions puts up an auction, you bid and pay for your goods, but unfortunately you’ll never get them and you end up being the ripped off bitch…) ebay doesn’t have to pay the stolen money since it was the other user that slapped’ the money out of the user’s pocket and this isn’t ebay’s responsibility anymore..(although the claim that there are certain ways to get your money back but you’ll definitely never see your money again)
That's the reason why I highly appreciate the feedback system indicating how many transactions the user has done so far and how the ended, I guess if a user has at least 5 praises you can bid without hesitating as the seller appears to be honest and reliable.
Additionally you were also referring to the monopoly of ebay in the auction field and like you mentioned this isn’t vivible for the auction business, with yahoo being scuttled out they don’t have any futile rivals anymore…and now with paypal on their side they have all cards in their hands…
Let’s see how this will affect the business world, we just have to be patient :)

Thanks again for the nice discussing and have an excellent day,

Chris

@tymer it's ok, you didn't know that I'm not well versed in german so forget it :), however the reproach of spam was an exaggeration though :D
